The Classique School of Dance was founded in 2001 by our principal Gemma Hersey, a professional dancer, an associate of the Imperial School of Teachers of Dance and a qualified dance teacher with a degree in dance..

Whilst looking for a local dance school for her young daughter, Gemma found that most local dance schools did not offer classical or formal training in dance or were 'elitist' in their approach, only giving chance to a very select few.

In response, Gemma decided to start her own dance school that would always be inclusive for all who wished to learn and enjoy dance and would give every chance to everyone's talent and potential. The Classique School of Dance was founded on these principles.

The Classique School of Dance now has over 240 pupils from aged 3 to adult who constantly attain high grades in ISTD examinations in ballet, tap, modern and contemporary dance. The school now has dance centres in Waterlooville, Chichester and Lovedean and are open six days a week with a fully trained and very successful faculty.

Every year, the school also has two highly successful end of year shows. So successful that the school has had to move to ever larger venues to accomodate sell out audiences. In 2008 the school's end of year show moved to the King's Theatre, Southsea.

The success of the Classique School of Dance together with our desire to give even more opportunity for our pupils to become involved in a career with the professional theatre and performance media. Classique Stars has been created with that mission in mind.
